For centuries people on earth have been searching for Atlantis. The mythical place of a lost civilisation. In fact, Atlantis was never situated on earth, and its civilisation was never lost. As you might have guessed by now, the place Al-Maisan grew up in, was Atlantis. De Mount Olympus branch office on Io.

From the earth Io seems to be a hard place to live in. But for the son of Zeus, it is not. Al-Maisan lived on Io for about 14 years. He was sent there when he was 8 months old en came back to Mount Olympus on his fifteenth birthday.

In his 14 years and 4 months on the Jupiter-moon he learned everything he needed to know. Politics, debating, philosphy, athletics, martial arts, planning, strategy, etcetera. His teachers came from all over the world, and those who were mortal were made immortal by Zeus, for the time that was needed. For no one mortal could travel to Io.

Now, this log is about The Shining One. The never-mentioned third brother, or fifth child of the double twins Castor and Pollux and Helen en Clytaemnestra. Their mother is Leda, who was married to king Tyndareus and in one night got seduced by Zeus and slept with her husband. She bore four known child after this eventfull night. Pollux and Helen, who were Zeus' children, and Castor and Clytaemnestra, children of Tyndareus. But the exceptional event of two twins, one mortal and the other deities, brought forth another child. The Shining One.
Of this child, not much is known. Afther his birth, Zeus took him to Mount Olympus. But in the center of attention, this child could not be raised to fullfill his task. So he was sent away. For the length of his childhood he was hidden on Io, one of Jupiter's moons.

This log is mostly in Dutch, which is my 'mother-tongue'. I'll try to put in some English now and then. So, the constellation of Gemini consists of three main stars: Castor and Pollux, who are the twins after which this constellation is named, and Alhena, which derrives from the Arab word for brand-marking (cattle or camels). Another name for this star is Al-Maisan, which means The Shining One in English.

If the constellation Gemini is supposed to depict twins, then why are there three stars? And what about the third one...

Okee, zo gaat het goed. Waar was ik gebleven. Oh ja, de Schijnende. In het sterrenbeeld Tweeligen staan drie grote sterren. Twee daarvan zijn Castor en Pollux, de naamgevende tweeling. De derde is Alhena, die ook wel Al-Maisan wordt genoemd. Alhena is afkomstig van een arabisch woord voor brandmerk. Al-Maisan is eveneens arabisch en betekent zoveel als De Schijnende.

Maar wat doen drie sterren in het sterrenbeeld tweelingen?
